London-based asset manager Cairn Capital has hired two credit analysts to provide research support to its collateralized debt obligation and hedge fund businesses. Stephan Michel, co-head of European credit research at Barclays Capital in London, will head up research at Cairn. And Deniz Akgul joins from Houlihan Lokey Howard & Zukin Financial Advisors in London, where he focused on company restructurings, to work with Michel. Akgul started last week and Michel is due to start next month. "Stephan and Deniz both bring diverse skill-sets which differentiate Cairn and which complement the excellent external research Cairn uses," said Tim Frost, director. Akgul was on gardening leave as BW went to press and could not be reached; Michel did not return calls to his cell phone.
At Barclays, Michel reported to Mark Howard, head of credit research in New York. The two remaining co-heads of European credit research in London are Laura Winchester and Robert McAdie. Howard, Winchester and McAdie did not return calls.
