Portuguese Tax Could Drive RMBS Defaults Higher
A proposal to raise Portugal’s average income tax from 9.8% to 11.8% and to add a 4% income-tax surcharge next year could have a negative impact on residential mortgage-backed securities, as a reduction in available household income could result in higher arrears and default levels, according to Fitch Ratings.
