Beggars can’t be choosers
I have often said the glamour that was once associated with banking has faded away and the recent antics of a good friend only illustrate my point.
Struggling to meet his work targets, and stonewalled by borrowers over the phone, this loan originator decided to change tack by flying unannounced to the city where most of his prospects were based.
Armed with a long list of addresses, the chap spent two days going door to door, offering his bank’s balance sheet at dirt cheap prices. Most were sceptical, but he managed to land one new borrower before returning to Hong Kong.
His approach was no doubt impressive. But his desperation showed that I got out of the game at a good time as the days of wining and dining on the client’s tab certainly seem to be over.
Ah well, he can always rely on me, I consoled him, as I bought him another round.
