India needs green bank, says think tank

India needs a green bank to finance the expanding clean energy industry, according to a joint report from non-profit organisations the Natural Resources Defense Council and the Council on Energy, Environment and Water.

Green banks already exist in countries such as Australia, Japan, Malaysia, US and the UK.

Unlike conventional lenders, green banks are publicly funded institutions that focus solely on financing the deployment of renewable energy, energy efficient and other clean infrastructure projects.
