Build it and they will come? HK plans connect for IPOs

The Hong Kong Stock Exchange (HKEX) wants to give investors access to IPOs in the city and China, with an “IPO connect” now in the works. But with investors still reeling from the turbulence in China’s A-share market, the move faces plenty of challenges.

The scheme is part of HKEX’s new three-year strategic plan announced last week and aims to leverage on the success of the Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect, which at present only allows trading of secondary equity. With the IPO connect, investors will be able to buy stock in primary as well.
