CMBS players eye shakeup as S&P nears end of ban

The end of S&P’s CMBS conduit ratings ban in a few months could start a fight between the agencies for market share — at the expense of credit standards.

Moody’s loosened its criteria for rating single borrower deals in August, in what was perceived as a bid to win more of that business from issuers. Others, however, tied the move directly to the pending return of S&P to the conduit market.
