Asian stocks stage brutal sell-off as ECM at risk

Following an already disappointing week, Asia’s equity markets suffered another brutal sell-off when trading re-opened on Monday. The turmoil is confounding market watchers and turning up the heat on ECM, with bankers saying new issuance may be fighting a losing battle.

Investors dumped shares in China on Monday, sending the Shanghai Stock Exchange Composite Index down by the most since 2007. It plunged 8.49% on August 24, dragging Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index down by 5.06% and affecting equity indices across Asia.
