EC to improve environment for covered bonds
The European Commission outlined on Thursday its plan to meet the long-term financing needs of the European economy, and said it wishes to improve the environment for covered bonds. A separate draft document makes it clear that the viability of an integrated European covered bond market is under consideration.
The EC outlined talks about facilitating SMEs access to capital markets and to larger investment pools. This could be achieved by creating a liquid and transparent secondary market for corporate bonds, reviving securitization markets “and improving the EU environment for covered bonds and private placements”, it said in
