Barclays Capital has hired Jerry Hammerschmidt as a director in its investor solutions group in New York. Hammerschmidt, who declined comment on the reasons for his move, started Thursday, focusing on selling structured products to financial institutions. He reports to Philippe El Asmar, head of investor solutions for the Americas.

Hammerschmidt was a managing director in hedge fund sales for six months at BNP Paribas in New York, reporting to Nick Kello, managing director of hedge fund sales. Prior to that he spent 12 years at Morgan Stanley in New York, Hong Kong and San Francisco. Kello referred questions about the departure and any replacement to Kerrie McHugh, who declined comment.

El Asmar said he has hired four further staffers, including two internal transfers and two recent graduates. He referred questions about names and titles to Karina Byrne, spokeswoman, who did not return phone messages by press time. El Asmar oversees the structuring and sale of products across asset classes and has built the investor solutions group to 20 from scratch when he started last year (DW, 3/28/04).
