Mods proposals rock building society investor base

Traditional hybrid capital buyers may make way for equity income funds to become the core investor base for the new capital instruments being devised for UK building societies, market participants said on Monday.

The Building Societies Association (BSA) has been working on creating Modified Ordinary Deferred Shares (Mods) to satisfy regulators’ demands for a permanent, loss absorbing form of capital under the new Basel initiatives that doesn’t compromise their mutual status.
