UK skids before syndication on S&P outlook cut

Standard & Poor’s threw a banana skin in the UK’s path ahead of its first syndicated government bond, changing the outlook on the sovereign’s triple-A rating from stable to negative on Thursday.

The Debt Management Office is still discussing its syndication strategy with its bankers, but the first such issue is expected to be a nominal 25 or 50 year issue as early as possible in June.

More details may emerge when the DMO announces its quarterly funding programme today (Friday).
