CajaSur seizure gives push to Spanish mergers

Consolidation in the Spanish savings bank sector took on new momentum this week after the Bank of Spain seized CajaSur and four other cajas agreed merger terms — soon after three others moved ahead with their link-up. Spanish sovereign and financial credit spreads tightened in reaction, with market participants welcoming the impetus state support has given to the wave of link-ups.
