Rare SemiLEDs lights up Nasdaq, pricing above range

Taiwan-based LED chip marker SemiLEDs successfully priced a $100m IPO on the Nasdaq in a rare appearance for a Taiwanese company in the US last week.

The stock was well received, pricing at $17, above its $14.50–$16.50 price range, on December 9. Bookrunners banked on the stock’s rarity, unique position in the LED market and the recent volatility of competitor Cree.
