Prada’s punchy price tag makes investors think again

Prada is expected to price its HK$20.3bn ($2.6bn) Hong Kong IPO on Friday. But the Italian company’s punchy valuation, tough tax regulations and the poor performance of Samsonite’s recent listing pushed several investors to withdraw orders in the final moments, said bankers away from the deal.

The company tightened pricing guidance on Thursday, offering investors 423.276m shares for between HK$39.50-HK$42.25, compared to its initial HK$36.50-HK$48 offer. But some rival bankers questioned how successful the deal would be after the retail offer was rumoured to be undersubscribed when the books closed on Thursday.
