Fed poses new threat to short end demand

Another threat to US money market funds’ demand for commercial paper has emerged from the Federal Reserve Board, days after money funds warned about the damage proposed SEC regulation could do to the industry.

Plans for enhanced prudential standards under the Dodd-Frank Act, which place limits on counterparty credit exposure, could mean that bank sponsors of money funds have to aggregate the credit exposures of the fund with that of the parent entity, legal firm Dechert has warned.
