Chinese officials have something to smile about

Equity investors, analysts and bankers may have groaned this week when Barack Obama was elected US President for another four years. But Chinese politicians, at least, breathed a sigh of relief.

Only a few days after US voters went to the polls, thousands of Chinese party officials met for their once-every-five-years gathering. These party officials will have no doubt paid close attention to the result in the US and they could be forgiven for reacting with sheer joy.
