Santander’s quarterly GBM profits drop year on year

Grupo Santander’s global wholesale banking business made a profit before taxes of €611m in the second quarter, down from €695m for the second quarter of 2012. Profits in the group were also lower in the first half of this year compared with 2012, dropping €324m to €1.372bn.

Income from credit markets in the first half dropped 8% compared with the same period in 2012, which the bank attributed to declines in Spain that were not offset by the increased revenues from business in the US, UK and Latin America.
