IG lenders struggle to shake first quarter shocker

High grade loans bankers claim to be in more hopeful talks with clients after a “devastating” start to the year, but unease lingers around the market.

Loan volumes swung to multiyear lows in the first three months of 2019, with January and February in particular seeing more than 60% falls in year-on-year volumes.

“It was devastating,” said one head of loans on Tuesday. “But we’re having more talks with clients now.”
