Peripheral markets take beating as Italy, Turkey volatility boils

Government bond markets in the eurozone periphery took another beating on Monday amid political tensions in Italy and Turkey, with spreads over Germany at their widest level in months.

The 10 year BTP/Bund and Bono/Bund spreads were at 273bp and 112bp respectively on Monday afternoon, their highest levels since the end of May, when peripheral markets sold off in the face of uncertainty surrounding the Italian election.
