Indonesia hopes rate hike will lift market

Indonesian credits got a quick boost late last week as investor sentiment rose following an interest rate hike. But while the buy-side is again warming up to the country’s bonds, the debate continues over whether the optimism is sustainable.

Last Thursday, Indonesia’s central bank raised interest rates for the first time since 2014, bumping up the benchmark seven day repo rate by 25bp to 4.5%, to stem weeks of a declining rupiah. But the hike announcement brought mixed results.
