EBA’s role on legacy instruments called into question

In the wake of hedge fund Caius Capital’s claim that UniCredit’s shares are ineligible for the regulatory treatment they receive, focus has turned to what role the different European authorities play in reviewing legacy capital.

In particular, questions have been asked about what role the European Banking Authority has played, and what role it should play in the area of legacy securities.

One member of the European Parliament has called for the EBA's powers to be strengthened.
