Kodak pioneers cryptocurrency as listed company capital tool

Kodak will hold an initial coin offering (ICO) on January 31 to sell Kodakcoin, the first cryptocurrency to be issued by a listed company, putting the burgeoning asset class in competition with established capital markets products like shares and bonds.

Cryptocurrencies, such as bitcoin, are digital tokens tradable on a blockchain. Start-ups have begun launching their own cryptocurrencies in ICOs in order to raise funds. In 2017, ICOs overtook venture capital as the largest source of start-up investment.
