Merrill Analyst To Join Hedge Fund

Oren Cohen left Merrill Lynch last Wednesday, where he was a managing director and media analyst, to join Trilogy Capital, a New York hedge fund. "I feel I've done everything I set out to do on the sell-side. This is an opportunity to do something else," he says.

Trilogy Capital was founded last year by Jonathan Rosenstein, a former distressed securities trader at Bear Stearns, and Paul Greenberg, Bear Stearns' former head of high-yield research. Cohen spent five years at Bear Stearns, where he was a senior managing director and global head global of the telecom and media research group from 1995 to 2000. Prior to joining Bear Stearns, he was an analyst at Salomon Brothers, and a commercial lending officer at the Royal Bank of Canada. Cohen ranked second in the broadcasting and publishing sector and runner-up in the cable and satellite sector on the 2001 Institutional Investor All-America Fixed-Income Research Team. Greenberg did not return calls.
