Australians wait for their own cover version
Introducing covered bonds would be a good way of weaning Australian banks off the government guarantee while retaining rates investors, the panellists at the Euromoney Australian debt capital markets forum’s banking panel agreed on Tuesday.
The Australian banking system held up better than most and a government guarantee was introduced to maintain competitiveness in the international markets rather than an emergency measure.
