CoCo demand in doubt, says S&P as estimates hit $1tr

Banks will likely be forced to find alternative routes away from contingent capital to meet more demanding regulatory requirements, said Standard & Poor’s this week.

The rating agency estimated that banks might have to raise at least $1tr of new Basel III-compliant hybrids in the next five to 10 years in order to replace legacy hybrids and meet other regulatory requirements.
