IPO hopefuls will need to pay up to beat the competition

Companies looking to their bankers for an indication of when they can launch IPOs are being sorely disappointed, as even the experts are unwilling to bet when markets will improve. But they are willing to predict one thing: when the market does get better, the heavy competition for investors’ attention will make it hard to attract demand — and will make generous pricing all the more important.
