EC bowed to market pressure over bail-in, say bankers

The European Commission bowed to intense pressure from the banking industry to leave decisions on the amount of bail-inable debt that banks will need to hold up to national regulators, bankers said on Thursday.

In its long-awaited crisis management and resolution regime proposals, published yesterday, the EC stopped short of prescribing the minimum amount of loss absorbing capital banks would need to hold, including senior debt, which would be bail-inable from as early as 2015 — and January 2018 at the latest.
