Asia Pacific banks broadly resilient in 2012: Fitch

Asia Pacific banks’ ratings have generally stable outlooks, reflecting Fitch’s view of their ability to weather the weaker global economy and the willingness of respective sovereigns to provide support, but downside risks exist.

The region’s banks’ ratings have been relatively stable, underlining these institutions’ ability to weather a global economic slowdown due to healthy deposit-funded balance sheets, strong pre-provision profit and more accommodative policy actions. But these entities will continue to be plagued by potential downside risks.
