Volkswagen £250m shows sterling is jumping

Volkswagen Financial Services broke the stillness in the European corporate bond market on Tuesday by issuing a £250m four year bond — showing that, in sterling at least, investors are all present and interested in buying deals.

The issue was not prompted by a reverse enquiry, but by the car finance company’s need for sterling to finance its UK lending, said bankers at the bookrunners, Goldman Sachs and HSBC. Demand for the deal was much stronger than for either of this year’s previous sterling offerings ...
