When it rains, it pours

Much has been written about the weather in Hong Kong and its unpredictability. Anyone who has lived here for any length of time will know, it can lead to discomfiting situations, as one of my good friends found out this week.

The chap, not known for his timekeeping skills, woke up one rainy morning to find that he was running late for an important client meeting. While he managed to get ready at record speed, he ended up losing precious minutes looking for an umbrella. But with no time to spare he decided to brave the weather without it.

Unluckily for him, the rain was torrential, forcing him to make a pit-stop at a 7-Eleven to buy an emergency brolly. But as fate would have it, all the umbrellas were sold out, meaning the guy had to settle for a cheap raincoat.

Or at least, what he thought was a raincoat. Because when he opened it, it turned out to be unexpectedly flimsy, and when he wore it, the fellow looked like he’d taken a garbage bag from home and cut holes in it to make arms.

Nevertheless, the banker made it to the client’s office without a minute to spare, only to bump into the client in the elevator while still wearing his ridiculous outfit.

Mortified, he quickly took it off. But the client only chuckled and led him to the meeting room, where my friend, despite being terribly flustered and a bit wet, managed to seal the mandate.

However, before exiting, there was one thing his client apparently demanded — to take a photo of the chap with the raincoat on. A man after my own heart!
